BOOKBINDING IN MINIATURE - FROM SIMPLE BOOKS TO A SEWN LEATHER BOUND BOOK
Tine Krijnen, IGMA ArtisanTuesday - Thursday
This is your chance to fill your miniature rooms with lovely books—from simple books with and without flutes on the spine to a leather-bound book originally printed in 1637. Students will learn bookbinding techniques to make simple books with illustrations and leather-covered books with flutes on the spine.
You will learn to thread thread and tighten bookbinders twine and sew the 11 sections on the taut twine. The sewn book will be the Tulip book by P. Cos, published in 1637, a miniature facsimile of a tulip catalogue. This catalogue contains 54 gouaches of tulips, with their weight, name, and the amount for which they were sold and 7 aquarelles of carnations and flowers.
All skill levels are welcome. A steady hand and good eyesight are required.
Class fee: £ 260 (IGMA members £ 245)
In addition, a materials fee of £ 40 is to be paid to the instructor the first day of the class. -
